Benefit helps ‘Buy the Coal Barn’ effort
Written by Anne O. Stout, Correspondent
The Bread of Life Food Pantry, located in the coal barn in the Village of Candor, received some damage in the flooding from Tropical Storm Lee in 2011.
Thanks to the help of volunteers, items were replaced and work on the building was done to reinforce the walls of the downstairs.
The Food Pantry helps more than 100 families each week in the Candor School district, yet the coal barn is for sale.
The “Buy the Coal Barn” project was started by folks helping with the food pantry, and to date they have reached almost 50 percent of their goal.
From 5 to 7 p.m. June 15, the Candor Fire Company Auxiliary and the Bread of Life Food Pantry will have a benefit dinner. Have breakfast for dinner with a menu of French toast, eggs, sausage, fruit cups, orange juice and coffee. The recommended donation is $5. A food pantry bake sale also will be available.
If you would just like to make a donation to this worthy cause, make a check payable to Bread of Life Food Pantry and send to: Dave Nichols, Fund Raising Chairman, PO Box 835, Candor, NY 13743.
