The Bread of Life Food Bank in Candor, under the guidance of Sherry Haner and her many volunteers, has raised about 85 percent of the price to purchase the coal barn from the Village of Candor.

The volunteers are working hard to buy the coal barn and have foam insulation added to the Bread of Life’s downstairs section, as well as piping and a furnace to help keep them more comfortable this winter.

On average, the Bread of Life is serving more than 100 people a week with the food supplies they receive.

As a fundraiser for the Bread of Life and the Candor Fire Department, the Candor firemen will play a basketball game against the Harlem Superstars from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at Owego Free Academy. The Harlem Superstars are similar to the Harlem Globetrotters in their on-court antics.

Tickets are $7 and can be bought at various locations in Candor, or contact Francis Foster at (607) 972-5042. At the door, tickets will be $8. Come and see how well the Candor firemen do.
