New Food Justice Mural at FDN

Help us reach our fundraising goal before 4/15 with a matching donation!

The Youth Farm Project’s Social Justice Immersion program, Friendship Donations Network and Ithaca Murals are teaming together to fundraise for a youth mural project at the Just Be Cause Center.

7 BIPOC teens will work with artist Maryam Adib this Spring. These young people will become familiar with the vision and the day to day workings of FDN and the broader concerns of food insecurity and dreams for food sovereignty. Teens receive a stipend for their participation in the project.

The goal of this project is to beautify the exterior of the FDN facility at the Just be Cause Center through the creation of a mural which will express the ideas and values that are central to FDN, Ithaca Murals and YFP’s missions and role in the community. The collaborative nature of this project is in line with our grassroots, community-based approach.

Friendship Donations Network is a food rescue organization located in Ithaca that has been operating every day since 1988. The FDN mission is to rescue fresh, nutritious food that would otherwise be thrown away from stores, farms and colleges and redistribute it to neighbors facing food insecurity throughout Tompkins County and beyond.

The Youth Farm Project’s Social Justice Immersion program combines hands-on land based arts & skills, collective leadership, civic engagement & political education. It is a community transformational space to develop a loving relationship to the land, ourselves and each other.

Ithaca Murals assists muralists in shifting our cultural cityscape to better reflect the values of the diverse people who live here, and has been inspired by the collaboration of this powerful project from the beginning.

Thanks for helping spread the word about this wonderful collaboration!
